A New School around the corner for Sunnyside Elementary

Did you know? Our 2 track program has space! Most Surrey schools run at capacity, but with our school moving and the information out there being of a closure, people seem to have overlooked our school as a long term option. Our Montessori program is usually full long before September with long wait lists. Even our choice program (grade 4 included) has room.

Did you knowNot only do we have space but a new school in our future, full of teachers and families dedicated to the growth of both programs. With the closure of one school and the opening of another, we move intact to the new location. Seems easy to understand right? But what we hear in the media is only of Sunnyside Elementary School closing. We are letting people know Sunnyside Elementary School is thriving.

Did you knowSurrey Montessori Society runs out of Sunnyside! 100% comprised of parents with students attending. We fundraise for our choice program, give grants to train our teachers in the Montessori method, recently adopted The Virtues Project throughout the whole school as well as sponsor field trips including our annual intermediate camping trip. With such a dedicated non-profit body working out of your child's school, only value could be added to the school as a whole, bringing money their way, no matter which program works best for your child.

Did you know? If you already go to Sunnyside you will be grandfathered out of catchment to the new location across HW 99 on 28th Ave. just off 160th St. Our projected move is Fall 2012 and we plan to celebrate with a parade to our new school the day it opens, walking from one land mark 60 year old community school, to the state of the art "Green" school. It will be a special day for our community.

Did you know? This green school is worth the wait!! With huge windows that pour light throughout each classroom bringing a natural learning environment with it. On bright days we turn off the lights completely! Pretty special compared to the florescent lights most grew up under.

Did you know? Our new facility supports 450 kids, 100 of which are preschool and Kindergarten entry. Yes I said preschool! More kids in your child's age group to play and learn with. We even have a creek running along the green belt of our grounds, again bringing nature to our kids. A peaceful garden space to work and learn in, a kitchen with court yard for our weekly hot lunch program, a specially designed playing field are among a few features projected by the planning committee. This state of the art school is one of a kind. And we are already fundraising for the specialty items of our future. Smart boards, Mac Computers, Playgrounds, are all on our wish list with allocated funds. A wish list you can add to as a member of this school and the PAC.

Did you know? The Vision of The Virtues Project is to serve humanity by supporting the moral and spiritual development of people of all cultures, by helping them to remember who they really are and to live by their highest values. Adding this element to the fabric of our school brings children a greater understanding of how to be better people. A school should not only be about learning the basic skills to pass the grades but preparing our children to be world citizens with strong values.

I personally feel next year will be a special year at Sunnyside. Our parents are involved, supportive, and our kids are at or beyond curriculum levels. If you are looking for a unique community, a school that cares and teachers committed to your child reaching their full potential, contact our school to make an appointment for your tour today. Meet our teachers and our parents, it may be a fit for your child.

Thank you for your time,

I would like to thank Barry MacDonald for coming to Sunnyside Elementary School. A sold out event!! A huge success!! Most of all, the next day we were buzzing about our boys, thinking hard about how they operate, and better ways to raise them!

Worth every penny. If you ever get the chance to see him, please do.
